Novel Data Mining Techniques for Emerging Domain Applications¶

Abstract: The research fields of data mining have been growing explosively in the past decades, with rich kinds of techniques developed and applied in wide applications. With the high potential values, a number of emerging application domains, like mobile social networks and personalized medicine, show great demands in big data analytics through novel data mining techniques. In this talk, I will introduce our recent developments and research works in novel data mining techniques for emerging application domains, including mobile social networks, personalized medicine and healthcare, personalized multimedia recommendations, etc. In particular, the topic of multiple information sources mining for innovative applications will be described. Finally, some potential opportunities and big challenges underlying this topic will be addressed.
Short Bio: Vincent S. Tseng is currently distinguished professor at Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan. He is also the president of Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence and Vice Chair for IEEE CIS Tainan Chapter.
Before joining NCKU, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in Computer Science Division of University of California at Berkeley, USA during 1998 and 1999. He was also the director for Institute of Medical Informatics of NCKU during August 2008 and July 2011. Dr. Tseng has a wide variety of research interests covering data mining, intelligent computing, mobile and Web technologies, biomedical informatics and multimedia databases. He has published more than 250 research papers in referred journals and international conferences with more than 15 patents in USA and ROC held/filed. He is on the editor board of a number of prestigious journals, including IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data, etc. He has served as chairs/program committee members for a number of premier international conferences related to data mining and database systems, including SIGKDD, ICDM, ICDE, CIKM, PAKDD, etc. He is also the PC Co-Chair for PAKDD 2013.
