In the rest of this page, you can find:
what to read?
what/how to write?
how to submit?
how is your survey evaluated?
Please read them carefully. ((( The author holds the copyright of the survey. The survey, unless agreed by the author, will not be disclosed to any third party. ))) ==What to read?== To survey the applications of data mining, you surely need to know at first what data mining is. Therefore, you are highly encouraged to read the recommended papers on the course homepage (reading materials for each chapter) as comprehensive and intensive as possible. You can find peer-reviewed papers, which are trustworthy with rich details, in IEEEXplore, ACM Portal, Elsevier, and DBLP (DBLP only provides paper titles and sources, you need to download the paper elsewhere). You can also search papers by search using Google Scholar. As data mining gains more and more attentions, it is easy to find information of data mining applications in mass media such as news papers, online forums, blogs, etc, which however should be carefully handled. ((((NOTE: You will need a Nanjing University IP to access IEEEXplore, ACM Portal and Elsevier)))) ==What/How to write?== * You are required to select one topic listed above, and investigate the topic by following the questions: * How did people do when the data mining techniques have not been applied? * What were the problems? * How the data mining techniques develop to solve the problem? * Are there any problems you think remaining and needed to be solved in the future? Please use * [{UP}course_dm13_a1/template.doc|this DOC template] (open with Microsoft Word, [^http://www.wps.cn/|WPS] or [^http://www.openoffice.org/|OpenOffice]) * or [{UP}course_dm13_a1/latex.zip|this LaTex template] (compile with XeLaTeX, thanks Mr. Zhaokang Wang) to write your survey in Chinese. You should follow the outline of the template restrictively, and note: * Follow the template, do NOT modify black text, but only replace the red text with your own words. * Save your finished DOC file to a PDF file for submission. Must NOT plagiarize: * Whenever you are using words, tables, figures and any work of others, citations should be made clear. * A continuous verbatim copy of more than 50 English/Chinese words is identified as a plagiarism, regardless of citations. ==How to submit?== Name your PDF survey file using your student ID, e.g., '091221154.PDF'. Upload your file to FTP: (recommend to use FTP software rather than Windows Explorer or IE)
ftp://lamda.nju.edu.cn/dm/assignment1/
username: dm13
password: dm13 (((No other file formats are acceptable.
No submissions after the deadline are acceptable.
No email submissions are accepted.))) ==How is your survey evaluated?== Evaluation of your job will be based on the content and your writing. A smooth article reflecting your comprehension will receive a good score. No scores will be given to a plagiarism. ==Received submissions== 081221065
091070024
091120083
091150063
091220008
091220091
091220136
091220142
091220160
095220002
101110066
101110109
101220001
101220002
101220003
101220004
101220007
101220008
101220009
101220011
101220013
101220014
101220015
101220016
101220018
101220019
101220020
101220023
101220024
101220025
101220026
101220028
101220029
101220030
101220032
101220033
101220034
101220035
101220036
101220038
101220039
101220040
101220042
101220043
101220045
101220046
101220047
101220055
101220057
101220059
101220061
101220062
101220063
101220064
101220065
101220070
101220072
101220074
101220075
101220077
101220078
101220079
101220080
101220084
101220085
101220087
101220088
101220089
101220091
101220092
101220095
101220096
101220097
101220098
101220099
101220100
101220103
101220105
101220108
101220110
101220111
101220114
101220116
101220119
101220120
101220121
101220122
101220123
101220124
101220125
101220126
101220127
101220128
101220129
101220130
101220132
101220134
101220135
101220136
101220139
101220140
101220141
101220142
101220143
101220144
101220148
101220150
101220151
101220152
101220153
101220155
101220156
101220157
101220158
101220160
101220161
101220162
101220163
101220168
101220171
101220173
101220174
101242024
101242060
101279003
105220001
111220035
111220078
111220079
111220085
111220086
111220090
111220148
111220157
111220158
111220160
111220161
111220167
111220181
111220183
111220184
111250075
128351017
